Mission

The mission for the Office of Social Studies Education is to provide a program for the development of student citizenship skills, civic efficacy and self-determination. Students will develop an understanding of global awareness and determine their role in the global society. This office is responsible for the design and implementation of the Detroit Board of Education mandated program for African-Centered Education.


Goals

  1. Demonstrate the effective use of core curriculum outcomes and objectives and the State of Michigan’s Content Standards and Benchmarks.
  2. Implement the comprehensive African-Centered program consistent with the Detroit Board of Education’s African-Centered Education Resolution.
  3. Increase social studies skill development in grades K-12 to enhance student achievement on the Social Studies MEAP grades 6 and 9 and The Michigan Merit Exam for grade 11.
