The mission of the Department of Development is to enhance revenues through grants and giving to develop and produce positive educational options that will ensure students have the opportunity to achieve and become productive citizens.
The Department of Development is the initial point of contact for all individual school and district efforts to generate and secure funds and resources from private foundations, businesses, corporations, and other philanthropic organizations for the betterment of the district’s schools and programs.
All applications, grant proposals or documents intended for submission to private foundations, businesses, and other philanthropic organizations for funding is coordinated through the Department of Development. The Department of Development provides the assistance necessary to ensure the proper documents are submitted and authorized correctly.
The acceptance of all financial and non-financial donations, gifts, and contributions made to the district and schools from private sources is coordinated through the Department of Development. Inquiries regarding the process for reporting the donation are provided by the Department.
The Department of Development is the central point of contact for The Skillman Foundation Good Schools Making the Grade Initiative for Detroit Public Schools. This seven year grant initiative from the Foundation will provide funding to elementary, middle, and high schools that have met academic standards.
